Assignment 2: : Research on Similar Project

The artist:

Ashley Lewis is a Canadian interactive artist, studying New Media at Ryerson University. Her program equips her to be versed in everything from experience design to robotic art. With aspirations of owning a production company, Ashley hopes to create children’s television and interactive media that focuses on highlighting racial diversity.

Speech Installation: The Obama Board

  •   The Obama Board is a new twist on a traditional musical keyboard. Instead of a musical note, each key, when pressed emits the sound of a word from Barack Obama's inauguration speech. Press the keys in the sequence of your choice to create your own speech!

This is the video of her Installation Art

This interactive wall allows multiple users to conduct virtual symphonies.

Assignment 2: :Mind Maping

Assignment 2: Speech Interactive and installation Design

Title : The Voice of Public Figure

Introduction :
For this project, we are required to create an interactive installation artwork. Our theme given is 'Speech'. We had done some research on interactive installation art and their artist which is based on speech installation art. We had agree to borrow the concepts and ideas from a Canadian interactive artist, Ashley Lewis. The name of the artwork is The Obama Board.

Target Audience : Teenager (17-25 years old)

Project Overview :
It will be like a projection mapping. The artwork that we choose, The Obama Board used a keyboard and when keypressed it will emits the sound of a word from Barrack Obama inauguration speech. In our own project we will be using the same method but in order to make it our own artwork we will be replacing the keyboard with a projection mapping visual. Instead of using real keyboard we modify it with a visual keyboard projection mapping. User will be interacting with the keyboard visually that projected to the wall or on the floor. Each keypressed will emits the sound of word they pressed visually.

Assignment 1 :Case Study - Intractive Art & Installation Design(part 2)

Assignment 1 :Case Study - Intractive Art & Installation Design(part 2)

Interactive Audio Visual Installation

“Laser Cave Prototype”

Concept of this installation:

The projection map was created by a painstaking process of using the crop effect to create outlines across the sculpture (30 layers in all). Then did a screen capture of the final outlined projection, and used that as a matte/mask in after effects to create audio visual clips.

How it work:

·         The visuals are built in favorite semi-modular.

·         Software Mac-only visual dynamo VDMX.

·         Emmett Feldman has developed a unique visual style in which primitive geometries and grids, recalling the glowing lights of Tron, overlap with playful cities and luxurious, crystalline materials.

·         Light is always present and always somehow sensual, even if floating through cities of prisms or the emptiness of space.

Critical Comments :

·         It is a projection mapping.

·         It is interactive because it is an audio visual installation art.

·         It is interesting because it reminds me of the glowing lights of Tron.

·         It is also interactive because it gives the user a sensual feeling through his artwork. The lighting somehow makes us sensual to know where it goes even though it is floating around the emptiness of space among the prism or geometries.

Assignment 1 :Case Study - Intractive Art & Installation Design

Video, mark making and architecture installation
“4spots, the landing extras”

Concept of this installation: Video Painting
Sweatshoppe has taken the LED technology to the streets on a different level. The collective made up of video artist Bruno Levy and Blake Shaw who are also multimedia performers, use video mapping techniques as a means of video painting onto walls through the use of a paint roller. The only catch is, the paint roller doesn't actually paint anything onto the wall. Instead it is made from green LEDs which work in conjunction with a camera next to a projector which is programmed with software that tracks its movements. The software then outputs the X-Y position of the roller projecting a textured video image of the strokes the duo are drawing on a wall. This interactive technology allows them to explore the relationship between video, mark making and architecture.

How it works:
·         The software controlling the video was written in Max.
·         The paint roller does not use any sort of paint, it simply contains
green LEDs.
·         The software tracks the color green and outputs the x and y
position which are sent to drawing commands and the strokes are
textured with video.
·         Software: in the programming environment Max/MSP/Jitter that uses computer vision algorithms to track a paint roller lit with LEDs and project video wherever the user strokes to create the illusion that video is being applied to a surface.

Critical Comments :
·         I found that this is a creative installation art.
·         Whatever rolls through the paint roller output the video result because the paint roller contains green LEDs.
·         It is interactive because user could try the paint roller and strokes around the area to create the illusion that video is being applied.
·         It is interesting because the output result is in video type and use multiple colors.

Assignment 1 :Case Study - Intractive Art & Installation Design

BIOGRAPHY: SWEATSHOPPE

Is the new multimedia performance collaboration between Bruno Levy and Blake Shaw that works at the intersection of art, music and technology .The duo develops software to construct a totally unique interactive performance which is to create unique ways of affecting an audience
.
SWEATSHOPPE has developed a new interactive technology that enables them to explore the relationship between video, mark making and architecture. Dubbed "video painting", this technology allows them to essentially "paint" video onto any surface.
